What's in a name?

Naming our beers was one of the trickier tasks we came up against when designing our branding. There are so many craft beer legends out there with super creative, clever and witty names. After thinking long and hard and after lots of puns and plays on words (mostly from co-founder John) we realised that we may have been trying to be something we’re not.
Now that’s not to say we aren’t creative, clever or witty…we just forgot that starting the Copper Beech Brewing company was a very personal journey. Each beer has been brewed from the heart with a memory attached and we didn’t want to keep it all to ourselves so we thought what better way to share them with you? Read on to find out how your beer got its name.

One Night in Laguna

In 2014 Sam and Dan had their wedding and then subsequently jetted off on their honeymoon and what still ranks as their number one trip ever.

One Night in Laguna is an ode to Dan’s most (and Sam’s least…) memorable night of their stay on Kuramathi Island in The Maldives.

On said evening, Sam was complaining that Dan was being too tame and needed to loosen up a bit, so began ordering rounds of jager bombs and cocktails. Dan said he would only take part if she matched him drink for drink. The night ended with Sam serenading Dan with a very loud rendition of ‘Hero’ buy Enrique Iglasias and the funniest ever attempt at playing a game of ping pong you have ever seen - all of which was captured on film by a very amused and much more sober Dan. If you ever meet up with us and ask about it he will very happily share the footage with you.

The bar in which the above story played out was called ‘Laguna’ and we would have loved to have shared a photo of it with you however, none of them were really appropriate 😆 so here’s a generic honeymoon snap instead!
